About Kendall
Singer-songwriter Kendall Amon is on the cusp of a burgeoning career, with not one but five songs hand-picked for the film 10 Truths About Love by director Brian K. Roberts. Amon penned a handful of songs during the pandemic and the Los Angeles native has the rare privilege of earning multiple syncs in the first romantic comedy from streaming platform Tubi, a division of FOX Entertainment. Amon's music beautifully elevates the narrative with her thoughtful, lyric-driven pop.
Director Brian K. Roberts believes Amon is the “voice” of the production, pivotal in telling of the modern complexities of romance, led by actress Camilla Belle. Amon’s prayer-like piano ballad “Falling In Love” serves as the film’s closing credits theme and the pulsating, mid-tempo pop song “Let’s Be Honest” reflects the story’s tempo and tone in the opening credits. Additional tracks "use me", "We Were Lovers" and "(1) Missed Call" appear in dramatic moments within the movie.
With musical leanings since she was quite young, Amon learned piano and took vocal lessons at age 7 and has trained with renowned vocal coach Peisha McPhee and talented piano teacher/musical director Neara Russell for over two decades. Russell produced “Falling In Love” and “We Were Lovers” and Nick Goldston produced “use me”, “Let’s Be Honest” and co-wrote them with Amon, while also producing “(1) Missed Call”.
Amon gravitated to Britney Spears and Michelle Branch in her formative years and has long pulled inspiration from Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Stevie Nicks, Alanis Morissette and Sara Bareilles, while paying close attention to artists of her generation like Julia Michaels, Ashe, Maggie Rogers, Chelsea Cutler and Taylor Swift.
“I listen to a ton of music and a ton of different genres but I find that lyrics really hook me in”, says Amon. “I'm a really lyrically-driven writer, I love words, I toil over them. I graduated from undergrad with a biology degree and a creative writing minor. I was applying to medical school, I did the interviews and had a quarter-life crisis between the pandemic and reevaluating my priorities. I realized that I was choosing a career path out of fear rather than out of passion”.
Amon’s skill with the pen was recognized from a young age and was further nurtured by support from her family and music teachers and mentors who gave her the push and confidence she needed.
“I never really knew that pursuing a career in music meant that you had to be a famous pop star. I thought in my head, I don't know if that's what I want. It seemed like a really tough life. I didn't really know that being a songwriter or singer-songwriter was an option. I’m a realist and I’m logic-driven but I have a creative side, and when I was choosing colleges I chose pre-med. In my applications I wrote that music and medicine are not that different, you think it's super cut and dry but there's problem solving and creative thinking. There's a formula to both songwriting and working in a lab. There's something synonymous with them”.
